Google has a concept of ranking each webpage on the Internet according to various factors. Nobody really knows for sure on what factors they rank it. So with it there has been a huge controversy regarding this subject. It is loosely based on the number of Backlinks but not entirely on it. But extra few Backlinks is no harm as long as the quality is retained from the incoming or the outgoing link.

For sure the magnitude of links passing away from your site is a major factor. Generally speaking as long as the webpage is not contributing to the ever growing problem of link spamming it should be safe. The Pagerank is scaled from 1 to 10. Before a Pagerank is assigned to a certain webpage it is considered as N/A (Not applicable). This would generally mean that Google hasn’t assigned a Pagerank for the fact that the page isn’t of much importance or mostly because it is very new.

So the chances of obtaining a good Pagerank is all about the content that is available on that page. But as webmaster you would definitely try to put in the best content possible. Try to be different from other websites or blogs from your niche. Well not everything has been done or else there would have been no way that new technologies and ideas come up each day across the world.

If you ever thought that Pagerank helps you get higher chance of better result for certain keywords then partially you are right. But 95% of the times it’s false. If you want to really know what I mean then go ahead and search for anything that you want to. Just some popular keywords would do. Then check for the resulting Pagerank of the top 10 websites from the results.

So all I can tell you is Google is smart and it knows how to be smarter each day by making things difficult to understand its technology.
